Experience Winter Like a Real Canadian and Try Dogsledding!

So, I can’t say enough good things about this winter adventure!

Dog sledding was on my bucket list for a while, I tried it once when I was a kid but never thought I’d have the chance to do it again. That all changed when I stumbled across the opportunity for an overnight camping dog sledding excursion in Algonquin Park. How could I possibly NOT do it?

The dogs were chained up and waiting when I arrived and to be honest, at first sight, I wondered what I had gotten myself into. They were all barking like crazy and their energy level was out of control!  After a quick lesson on how to properly mush we harnessed our own dogs up and were on our way. I quickly realized I had misjudged these dogs and that they were literally machines…they dragged my butt all the way to camp!

I obviously fell in love! This is Charlotte, the most precious of all!

I had also never winter camped before so was a little apprehensive about what was coming my way. The camp when we arrived, however, was much more than I had expected! The tents were semi-permanent structures with wood burning stoves to heat them – I was never cold!

After spending one weekend doing this last winter, I was immediately ready for a longer trip this year! It’s on my list and I really hope I can experience the Canadian dream again this winter!
