I don’t know about you, but one of my favourite things about winter is being able to skate outside! I mean, you’re hardly Canadian if you don’t do it at least once a season, right?
5 Best Paces to Skate Outdoors This Winter
1. Royal Botanical Gardens, Cherry Hill Gate, Burlington, Ontario:
This spot is one of my favourites because it seems that not many people have realized you can skate here! Every time I go, it’s completely barren, and I maybe see one or two hikers on the trail in the distance as I skate around my own personal paradise. It’s especially fun because I’m used to looking down on the marsh from the bridges and trails, so it’s a totally new perspective.
2. Aarowhead Provincial Park, Ontario:
This park is an awesome places to skate during the cold Canadian winter. I find it’s very sheltered because of the trees lining the skating trail but you’re still going to want to bundle up!
3. Wallingford Back Mines, Quebec:
This is another one of my top places to skate in the winter. It’s always abandoned when I go and I love the eeriness of the cracking ice and snow crumbling above as I skate through the mine.
4. Nathan Phillips Square, Toronto, Ontario:
This is one of the best spots in the city to skate, I think. It’s fun to have views of the Toronto skyline as you skate around with a hot drink and someone special by your side. It’s kind of a Toronto tradition, so you pretty much have you try it!
5. Plains of Abraham, Quebec:
This is a fun place to skate on a winters day with a hot chocolate in hand. They play music over the speakers and there are lights at night and bands and other events at different points throughout the season. Make sure you bundle up though, it’s not very sheltered and it’s pretty windy there!
